My Summer Challenge entry is a purse designed by Carolyn Brown. It consists of a base bag approximately 14" wide, 9" tall, and 6" from front to back. There is a center divider in the purse, 11 pockets, including a zippered pocket. The outer shell is removable and fastens onto the base bag with velcro. I constructed the base bag with canvas (for plenty of body) for the bottom portion and vinyl for the top and the straps. I used home dec fabric from Joanns for the outer shell, and trimmed it with corded piping in a coordinating print. The shell also has two fairly large pockets on each end. I used magnetic snaps for closure.
I used designs from the Hummingbird Florals and Shadow Florals from Hatched in Africa and Springtime Butterflies from Allsorts. The designs were stitched with Mon- Rex embroidery thread, metallic threads, and halo metallic. I used mylar in some of the designs, and for a little extra bling, I added crystals. This is the first contest for me, and I had a great time creating this bag.
