RE: [web-design] hosting question

This can be a sticky wicket if another designer is involved. I have seen scenarios where the other designer holds login credentials hostage. Let's first hope that is not the case here. The CLIENT (your prospective client that is) should be the one taking care of getting login credentials to you. You should have backend/dashboard/cpanel access to the site so that you can work with database files, and FTP access so that you can upload and download files to the site.

Most hosting companies worth their salt are NOT going to give out this kind of information to anyone but their own hosting clients and that is as it should be. Just send an email to your client telling him/her what you will need to get started and let him/her take it from there. Good luck!

Subject: [web-design] hosting question

I am close to getting a gig redesigning a webpage. Its already built and hosted but the person isnt happy with the speed in which things are changed or the lack of creativity offered. Is the best way to approach this is to have the hosting company give me access to the code so i can make changes? I also feel that this web host isnt a good one - anyone able to recommend one that will allow us to accomplish this?? many thanks for the help -- Mike
