Does anyone have experience with JQuery?
My understanding is that JQuery allows one to easily add sophisticated JavaScript presentations to a website. The idea is that you load the JQuery library, access subroutines with short function calls, and presto-bango, there you go! Slide shows shadings, all kinds of great stuff.
The stats say that half or more of the most visited websites use JQuery.
Ever have the experience of going to a site, perhaps a top graphic loads, then lots of white space, time passes, maybe 20 - 30 seconds, then bang! lots of content.
I suspect that that is JQuery.
Here's what I think is happening.
JavaScript is a a scripting language. It is not compiled. The JQuery library is now some 91 K. That will take a bit of time to load.
But, more seriously, when code references something in the library. the library must be searched, just to find the function. If the function is 3 K in, no problem, but what happens if it is 50 K in, or 70 K in?
Tap tap tap.
Anyone have experience with this? It seems odd that such a small and fixable detail would be overlooked.
IT is the only field I have ever encountered where fresh-faced graduates are preferred to experienced journeyman. It is truly bizarre.
Best,
Bill Suboski
