TIP: Testing your designs is a must in most cases. Test them on something exactly like the fabrics that are going to be your final project. If you test on muslin and then make a baby blanket out of fleece or embroider on a stretchy tshirt you probably won't get the same results every time.
Going to rummage sales and picking up inexpensive items in the area that you usually embroider on gives you a great start.
Of course it is always nice to keep small inexpensive fleece blankets on had to test on and then donate to the shelters.
