Hi Joanne. Since you have Bernina Embroidery Software Designer Plus V5, you can get either. The 2 and 4 are older versions of the software. I always get the newest version that my software can read. Your Bernina 830 and 180 actually read .EXP. If you use your software to write to the machine (or usb stick), the software will automatically convert the ART files to EXP for you. It is generally better to purchase ART files for Bernina machines as these files will hold the colors and will allow more manipulation to the designs if you so choose. By using the Write to Machine option of our software, there is no need to save the files in EXP as well as ART.
