Hello.. I have had my machine quite some time. The best needle to use for embroidery is an embroidery needle, usually 75/11 . You should also be using machine embroidery bobbin thread. If you are using pre-wounds, be sure to put the little nipple thing in the bobbin case. For regular sewing, a Universal 80/12 would be fine, for heavy fabrice you might want a 90/14. If you are using metallics in the needle, be sure to use the Mettalic needle. These machines are wonderful and very user friendly. I also suggest you turn on the video on the machine and watch the threading process. Hope this helps. Marylou
