regarding taking online donations I suggest google checkout for merchants (https://checkout.google.com/sell)- you can register a business or a non-profit. Non-profits have the option of creating a donate button. You link it to your bank account and can either have it go directly into the account or sit in a pending status for review prior to the money being processed. Its all within google so you don't need to see the credit card details yourself.

I set it up for the Navy League at http://www.cjnlus.com if you want to see an example of a donate process (about half way down the page on the right). Feel free to donate to them :)
