There are lots of places online to purchase blanks if you just do a search and this place has some very nice ones as does several others I've with whom I've dealt. But for me to purchase, embellish with either embroidery or applique and then resale my product in our small town (& not only sm town but during this terrible economy with so very many people either out of work or having had to take jobs paying less that what they've made previously before all the shut-downs, lay-offs and down-sizing), these products are just too expensive. So I go to JoAnn's, Hobby Lobby or Hancock's and purchase the fabric I need at a fraction of the cost of ready made and zip up my own blanks for most of the articles I need. Most things like kitchen, hand, or guest towels, table napkins and cloths, bibs or blankets, and even simple baby gowns can be made in 30 minutes or less. Then I can sell them at prices my friends and neighbors can afford. If you live in an
area where your clients are not as affected by these economic downturns over the last three years, you may can afford to put more into your blanks and charge more for what you do. But in small town America where I live, I'd go broke fast doing that. Just a tip for anyone in an area like mine but still wanting to grow your business, it can by done. At recent events I've attended with other small businesses and home based businesses (like mine; I run mine out of the back of my home), I found that I was doing better than lots of others simply because I had taken some of these steps to cut my overhead & that way allowing me to keep my prices down while keeping my profits up. Just have to get creative sometimes.
