One of my daughters and I had great fun when we had a "Tea Party Club" at a local elementary school in an after school program. The club was for 2nd and 3rd grade girls or boys who wanted to participate. We had twelve girls. Each one was given the name of a province in England, ie Lady Yorkshire. My daughter was the Queen and I was the Queen Mother. The girls were instructed in table manners, how to serve tea, how to hold the tea cup and the history of "tea". Each week a different tea was served and each girl used a china cup and saucer. During the course, the girls made hats to wear for "high tea". This occurred on the last day of the club and the mother's were invited to attend. The Mothers were surprised to see how poised the girls had become. In fact, I overheard one of the Mothers asking her daughter how to hold the cup.
I will admit hauling everything we used back and forth was a nuisance. However, the fun we had more than made up for the inconvenience. I hope the girls learned a lot. My daughter and I certainly did.
